New install or migration (change AIX level, if oslevel changed # oslevel), then you have to stop your LPAR to perform this operation:
- To migrate a server for example from AIX5.3 to AIX6.1, perform a NIM Install Base Operating System on Standalone Clients, and with type: RTE, then select the lppsource and then the associated SPOT (same level)
- To restore an mksysb, select the type MKSYSB, with the associated spot, and if needed the lppsource (for example if you change your hardware platform, then required drivers will automatically installed)
- To install a base image (minimum image), select the type: SPOT, and add the associated lppsource
- To upgrade AIX (stay on same level, but upgrade TL or SP), lppsource must be select on the NIM server or client, ressource is allocated on the fly, and release when you exit smitty
- Restore mksysb on an alternate disk
