====== Synology installation ====== ==== First step: ==== - initial setup : Default IP on LAN4 is in the range 169.254.0.0/255.255.0.0, hard to scan - Best is to use **synology-assistant** it can be downloaded from Synology web site, only for Wîndows! This tool will scan and find very fast the IP of the storage. http://:5000/ you have to setup the new login and password ==== Second step: ==== - initial setup (hostname), and the latest OS DSM*.pat package is required - then setup bonding and networking ==== Third step: ==== If you have to use High Availability, synchronization with automatic failover, download the package **HighAvailability-broadwell** and install it. Then configure the cluster before doing something else, because it will format the volumes If no cluster, the format yourself the volumes. ==== Fourth step: ==== Then install additional packages from synology web site if required. Theses packages are installed on the volumes from cluster, all installed before setup of cluster are lost! Example of Packages: HyperBackup: backup to Cloud (S3, SoftLayer, Azure, DropBox...), rsync, remote NAS... multiple Web servers: apache, Tomcat... **//INFO//** You can connect to a Synology using ssh (enable the service in the web interface), connect using the admin login, and if needed witch to root: sudo -i (admin password will be asked) HA require identical hardware: same disk size, same network adapters....
